Probably one of the prettiest ancient cities in Asia Minor, Istanbul is the crown jewel city of modern-day Turkey full of beautiful architecture and rich history that dated all the way back to the 7th century BCE when the Greeks colonized the settlement and called it Byzantium.

Due to its strategic location right between the mighty continents of Asia and Europe with the Bosphorus Strait dividing it into 2 parts, the city had been the subjects of many conflicts for centuries.

The city has gone through many phases and iterations as it shifts from one conqueror to another, changing its name from Byzantium to Constantinople under the Ottoman Empire and eventually Istanbul.
