Nestled in a steep cliff of Karadag Mountain in the remote mountainous region of Macka in Trabzon, Sumela Monastery is probably one of the most epic monasteries to ever been built in the world.

With such an incredible feat, the Greek Orthodox monks of the yesteryears had managed to build an architectural wonder that defies nature in almost every imaginable way... for the most part until the 20th Century where it was abandoned and left in a state of disrepair for most of the century and it was further damaged by falling rocks which closed the place down since 2015.
