The Darfur conflict began in February 2003 when the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) rebel groups attacked military garrisons belonging to the Government of Sudan claiming economic neglect and repression of Darfur’s non-Arab population. In retaliation to these attacks, the government began arming militias, known as the Janjaweed(or Devil's on Horseback), and carrying out a violent campaign of ethnic cleansing against the region's non-Arab population of African Muslims. In early 2005, during the height of the genocide campaign, we traveled to the region to find out for ourselves the severity of the situation and preach the Gospel.
